![]() The inability to backup from a mapped driveĬrashplan ending support for Windows Servers from r/sysadminĢ.) CrashPlan ending support of all Windows Servers (including Enterprise). The software broke after anything changed e.g.) system upgrades, Java updates & CrashPlan version updates – then having to spend hours trying to sort it out.Updates often caused the software to stop working. The software used excessive amounts of resources primarily RAM.Limited support for various backup scenarios.Lack of support for the product, e.g.) Windows Servers. What’s interesting about this scenario (believe it or not) is that many backup service providers and MSPs actually used CrashPlan Home in favor of CrashPlan Pro or Enterprise. or 60 days while you transition elsewhere. They offer 3 options for what your next steps might be. I do find it very odd that they are still going to support server back under the PRO SMB product (and you can also install CrashPlan for Home on servers too, since it's the same app) This leads me to believe they intend to launch a separate product, like "Code42 for Enterprise Servers" or such.Screen capture from Code42 / CrashPlan announcing the discontinuation of CrashPlan Home They never had application aware server backup of any kind, so I'm not surprised they are officially dropping server support from the Enterprise product and focusing it on desktop/laptop only. It's designed for centralized backup across an enterprise.ĬrashPlan has really always been about backing up desktop/laptops. Only difference is the purchasing model since it's targeted to small businesses, and the support you get is different.ĬrashPlan PROe is now called Code42 Enterprise, and it uses an entirely different client with a full management backend (web). CrashPlan PRO is exactly the same as CrashPlan for Home, using the same client and all the same capabilities of the home version. ![]()
